 Top 20 Games of 2006
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:34 PM
Category: General

Voodoo Extreme has an interesting article during a time that I find is very boring in the gaming news department. Ummm anyhow the article is called Top 20 Games of 2006 and covers some very promising titles that should be out in the New year. Personally I'm most looking forward to playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and I certainly don't see why Duke Nukem Forever would be above Oblivion.... but that's just my opinion. Anyways if you go over there, be sure to vote for what you think will be the hottest game of 2006. Sooo check out the Top 20 Games of 2006.

Category: Movies

Rolling Stone did up a Peter Jackson Interview where he talks about the Kong film and some bits about The Hobbit and the Halo film..
Making this movie, I was trying to relate as much as I could to the nine-year-old version of me who first saw Kong; I wanted to make sure that it wasn't made by an old, jaded guy.
Check out the complete Peter Jackson Interview.

As our hero arrives, he finds that the war has been won by the Orcs, and it is they who control most of the mainland now. A great number of humans are now enslaved and forced to obey the will of their fearsome enemy. Rest assured you won't be bored since there are over 1000 unique characters to interact with, which amounts to a whole lot more than in the previous installment (around 400).

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:26 PM
Category: First Person

Computer and Video Games did up a Hellgate: London Preview. Lets take a look at some of it:
Something wicked this way comes. A portal to hell is soon to open in the centre of old London town. Residents will be killed, the Knights Templar resistance will be forced underground, the mad Liverpudlian who stands at Oxford Circus asking everyone whether they're a 'sinner or a winner' will be proved to have had remarkable foresight. Put simply: we're up shit creek. Why us? Why us Flagship Studios? What have we done to anger you?
That is all on Computer and Video Games.

Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones Review (PC)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 9:39 PM
Category: Action

A review for Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones has appeared on Trusted Reviews and here is a clip:
When all the good stuff comes together – the daring runs high across the rooftops and through the streets of Babylon; the dark prince slicing and dicing his way through guards and monsters; the prince sliding down a chain to deliver a ‘surprise’ to the guard below – it’s time for a deep, cheerful sigh of satisfaction. In a year that’s seen a dearth of decent platformers, The Two Thrones seems a wonderful reminder of just how engaging the genre can be.
Take a look at the rest of that review for Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones which is 3 pages of info on the game.

Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:58 PM
Category: Role Playing

Team XBox has a preview up for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion so lets take peek at it:
The overall scope of Oblivion is an experience that is boasting a 200+ hour play time (get some sleep now!), but the main story mode will clock in at a bit shorter, somewhere around 20-25 hours (which is without any additional quests, exploration, or anything that makes this series great).

 Serious Sam II Review (PC)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:45 PM
Category: First Person

Gameguru Mania took the time to post a Serious Sam II Review.
Your job is to reunite the pieces of a medallion scattered between different tribes of cute little people. These are in turn threatened by a myriad of enemies that be must be defeated with extreme prejudice. Actually, the game is more about staying alive and surviving than the hunt for some lame medallions :)

Peter Jackson's King Kong Review (PC)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:33 PM
Category: Action

GameShark posted up a Peter Jackson's King Kong Review.
There's a lot going against the PC version of King Kong: it's too short – if you play it consistently you'll be finished within a few days' time; it's peppered with technical issues, especially if you have an ATI video card – it likes to freeze, crash, and suffers from apparent memory leaks. There are control and gameplay issues while playing as Kong himself, and the end sequence feels rushed and tacked on in order to get the game out the door. And yet, despite these problems, King Kong succeeds because of its outstanding setting, its marvelous use of sound, and the fact that several scenes are sure to scare the bejeebers out of you.

Is Gun Worthplaying On Xbox? (XBox 360)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 10:15 PM
Category: Action

Worthplaying has a Gun Review for the Xbox 360 posted up and here is a small part of that.
Gun succeeds in the equine arena better than any Western game before it. In the very entertaining (but non-violent) rancher side missions, you learn to herd cattle into their pens using nothing more than skillful positioning of your trusty steed. In combat, your horse can kill villains who are on foot with a neat trampling attack; during chases, your horse can jump over obstacles, and when needed, it can turn on a dime, allowing you to get a better shot on the sucker who was closing in on you.
That is all on Worthplaying.

 Warrior Within Review (PC)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 2:11 PM
Category: Action

Gamespot posted up thier version of a Prince Of Persia: Two Thrones Review and here is a taste:
You can pick up dropped weapons for use in your offhand, which lets you do more powerful weapon combos against enemies. Or you can vault off walls and poles, and even use the enemies themselves to augment your attacks. The fights are as violent as ever--you can behead or even cut enemies in half with the more powerful moves.

Age Of Empires III Review (PC)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 12:00 AM
Category: Strategy

StrategyZone Online geared up a review for Age Of Empires III and here is a small bit of the article:
The home city is a nice addition to the game, and it does give the feel of having a major power out there supporting you. The only real flaw to the system is that, in my opinion, they missed a great opportunity to introduce casual RTS players to having to support a supply line. Regardless of the situation that the player is in, shipments from the home city arrive at the selected location. An outpost could be completely surrounded by the enemy, and yet shipments arrive there without problem. It would have been nice to force players to defend an certain path or location on the map for the shipments to arrive, and the reverse of that – it would have been nice to allow players to cut off another force’s shipments. As it is, the home city system adds a fun but somewhat shallow addition to the game.

In keeping with the Elder Scrolls tradition, players will have the option to experience the main quest at their own pace, and there will be plenty of opportunities to explore the vast world and make your own way. Numerous factions can be joined, such as the thieves or mages guilds, and each contains its own complete storyline and the chance to rise to the head of the faction and reap further rewards.

 The Witcher Q&A (PC)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 6:19 PM
Category: Role Playing

Total Video Games posted up an interview for The Witcher and here is a bit about it all:
Michal Madej: The best thing about The Witcher is its completely fresh approach to the genre. Any RPG fan will find all the elements that they look for in an RPG in The Witcher – but each one will be treated in a slightly different and interesting way. The most important elements here are: the intriguing storyline, the exciting combat and the unique idea of the main character. Of course ideas alone, even the best ones, are not everything – implementation of these ideas is also important, which in The Witcher is also something that is at a very high level.
The Witcher Interview is 5 pages long so check it out..

Is Age Of Empires III Worthplaying? (PC)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 3:32 PM
Category: Strategy

Worthplaying posted up thier idea of a Age Of Empires III Review and here is a bit of what they have to say about it:
The campaign mode is fleshed out well with a solid story and a large diversity of mission types that keep you defending or attacking against your opponents (as well as other objectives, like allying with Native Americans or taking control of certain trade routes). It does, however, pale in comparison to many such modes in different titles (such as Warcraft 3 or Starcraft) simply in depth of story. Thankfully, there is a thread that ties all of the stories together that you will discover while playing. Like previous titles in the series, you can also fight a single-player skirmish against computer opponents to get a quick fix.
That's all on Worthplaying.

 Sin Episodes Interview (PC)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 8:42 PM
Category: First Person

Gameguru Mania took the time to have a Sin Episodes Interview with Richard "Levelord" Gray of Ritual.
Levelord: SiN Episodes is definitely an action game, but there will be puzzles and adventure, too. It will have plenty of environmental interactivity and lots of cool stuff to do. Our AI is moving from a fully scripted system (as we had in the original SiN) to a more system-driven approach, in which the AI dynamically reacts and adapts to the player and his/her actions. Our characters will also react to each other, the environment, and the developing story.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Preview (XBox/PC)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 5:51 PM
Category: Role Playing

A preview for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has appeared on Shack News and here is s bit of what David Craddock has to say about the upcoming RPG from Bethesda.
A perilous hero is what is needed, and Oblivion has plenty of options for creating just such an avatar. At the start of the game, the player will choose his or her race as well as what the character should look like. There are ten races to choose from in Oblivion: Imperial, Breton, Nord, Redguard, High Elf, Dark Elf, Wood Elf, Orc, Khajiit, and Argonian. Their differences will be revealed when you're forced to decide which race is for you, and of course, certain races combined with certain classes divided by specific abilities equals tons of possible choices.

Is Serious Sam II Worthplaying? (PC)
Posted by Darren 'Doom Dude' Finch at 7:54 AM
Category: First Person

Worthplaying posted up thier idea of a Serious Sam II Review and here is a snatch of text from said review:
There are more weapons by far in Serious Sam 2 than the first game and its expansion combined. A total of 15 different munitions will be placed at your disposal, everything from classic stand-bys like the shotgun and the mini-gun all the way through to oddly exotic destruction-delivery systems like the homing parrot.
That's all on Worthplaying.
